THE HIGH SCHOOL GRAD’S GUIDE TO REACHING YOUR POTENTIAL IN POLICING, CORRECTIONS, MILITARY POLICE, & JUSTICE

Updated: Mar 27, 2024

This is your time. Focussing on you and your future are important. Without sounding cliché,

these really ARE the best years of your life. If you are paying attention to your end game,

then these really are the best years of your life and an important next step.

CCJA just returned from another Career & Education Fair. And frankly speaking, I don’t

think that these events attract the right kind of applicant to the police, corrections, and justice

career options. I am witnessing the steady pace of those who simply “aren’t sure.”

“EYES ON YOUR END GAME”

This pattern of our freshly minted high school grads or those into their gap-year are still not

finding a connection.

Yes...there are exceptions to every rule – you likely are that exception if you are reading this.

But you know the type. That one person who has “that look.” A person so very sure of an

incredible future, knows exactly what they want, and never ever takes their eyes off of

what it is important.

I encountered one of those unique cases. Katie (alias) greeted me with a firm handshake, introduced herself, mentioned her upcoming high school graduation, and expressed her ambition to become a police officer with the Calgary police service.

"I have a clear goal in mind, I just need guidance on how to achieve it,"

Were her initial words. In a time where baby boomers often underestimate the youth, assuming they prioritize screen-time over face-to-face interactions, this perception is frequently incorrect. Honestly, I faced similar criticism when I first joined the police service. Your generation has much to offer and teach us.

As you transition from the security of high school, you may be considering jobs, further education, travel, or perhaps nothing at all. However, if you have a clear aspiration and a willingness to care for others, you are already on the right path. If your goal is to work diligently towards a fulfilling career where your contributions make a difference in people's lives, you have your answer. How to achieve this? This is where our justice academy plays a crucial role.

By receiving a letter of acceptance for the 2-year Criminal Justice Diploma at CCJA, your career journey will commence. We can assist you in formalizing it with a top-notch education. We assure you an unparalleled experience that even your faculty team may not fully grasp, as you are driving towards your individual objectives. With our guidance and support, we offer opportunities to delve into cold homicide investigations, operate drones for mapping vehicle accidents, engage in biathlon and running events, and partake in an overseas practicum, just to name a few.

The Canadian Criminal Justice Academy may not be suitable for everyone – we acknowledge that, yet, for those prepared to serve their country and community, we eagerly await your presence on our team.

The prospects in a law enforcement, Corrections, military police, or justice-related career are vast.

Your professional journey commences here and now with your Criminal Justice Diploma.
